RE: just gotta ask

As others have said you have to have it priced right and in tip top condition. Pull out your personal items as no buyer wants to wade through your stuff to see the motorhome. I had my listed on rvtraderonline and craigslist for about four months before selling. If there is a local rv show park yourself in the parking lot with a large for sale sign and show it off.

RE: My not so good E-bay experience-this time!

I had the same experience with an rvtrader ad but going the opposite way last Memorial Day. Flew from Sacramento to Louisiana and the rig was a nightmare but also had looked good in the pictures. We were out our airfare and the whole holiday weekend as our plane broke down on the return flight. Had to spend the night in Houston, after an all night bus trip from Louisiana. Needless to say we decided to concentrate our search closer to home after that.
We finally found our rig an hour from our home after a grueling eight month search.

RE: 1000 Trails Recommendations?

Northern California our favorites are LOTS and Ponderosa, down south we like Pio Pico and Soledad. In oregon South Jetty and Pacific City, my husband prefers PC and I prefer SJ so every year we trade off, both parks have bunnies running around, please drive slow.

RE: What to Pay for Winnebago

After an eight month search (mostly my fault kept changing my mind on what I wanted :B)I finally purchased an '01 36w Itasca Sunflyer.
I feel I got a good deal and I'm sure the owner felt he also got a good and fair deal. I ended up paying $1000 below low retail and also paid for a full inspection of engine and chassis. Owner and I split what few repairs were needed.
My husband wanted to work the price down a couple thousand more but after searching for so long and seeing some truly scary stuff out there this rig far surpassed anything out there for the age and condition.
I would definitely work the owner down to at least low retail as no finance company will lend much more and then you are looking at a larger cost coming out of pocket. If he doesn't come down walk as we found there were a lot of unrealistic owners sitting on rigs they were upside down on and trying to get "what they owed". Well I wasn't going to go into a rig and be upside down before I even drove off in it. Dealers are hurting and do not want to deal, worse than used car salesman. I only met one or two truly honest dealers who told me straight up they couldn't sell me a rig at low retail or if they could which rigs they were. They didn't waste my time and I didn't waste theirs.

RE: Why did you purchase a gas Class A?

We've just purchased our first class A and it was gas. We did an extensive search for eight months before buying so this was not an uninformed purchase. Looking first at older gas or diesel models we could remodel, we very quickly got discouraged with the upkeep of engines and chassis (not manufacturer fault but owner's negligence). At dealerships they soon learned to just leave us alone to look when we came out with measuring tape, flash lights, angled mirror, tool bag and heavy blanket to lay on to look at underside ;).
We then turned our search to DP that were approx. 10 years old as we were trying to stay within a certain price range. For what we could buy for the money we realized that a gas class A would give us more of what we personally wanted in our next rig. The added benefit being my husband could perform more of the maintenance on a gas engine himself than on a diesel saving us additional funds in the long run.
I know that the rig we ended up with had only a CCC of a little under 1000lbs. But the kind of camping we do we knew we could make it work as we never keep our fresh water tank more than a 1/4 full. We have only two adults rather than the four in the rigs specs. and we keep the minimum of food stocked as we like to shop as we go. I figure we've increased our CCC to close to 2,000lbs, not great but respectable.

audiovox cd/radio

Just purchased a new to us rv and can not figure out how to turn on the cd/radio located in the bedroom. Anyone have one of these and can clue me into how these work? The original owner says there is a catch to operating it but it's been so long since he used it he isn't able to remember what it is.
DH checked fuses, hit power button, turned on cab radio thinking it might have to be on to operate one in back and nothing has worked so far.

engine and chassis eval near sacramento?

Can anyone recommend a mechanic to do an engine chassis and coach evaluation in the Sacramento area? I've got a deposit down on a 95 36' U280 pending mech eval. and I'd like to get it into someone local. I usually use Haynes Rv up in Sonora but that is too far for an eval.

RE: Need another bed in MH - any suggestions?

How about a pup tent for the teenager! I know, I know easier said than done. My boys when growing up would complain we weren't really camping but come bed time everyone slept inside. The pup tent was just for show and a place to hang out during the day away from Mom and Dad.
We had a 29' class C back then and sometimes slept ten in there! Had the overhead bed, a queen in back and the couch and dinette converted. At the time I felt like a short order cook by the time I had breakfast made and cleaned up it was time to start lunch :h!

RE: sales tax when buying out of state?

I talked to the sales manager at the dealership we are buying the rig and he said they will not charge sales tax. I will pay in CA when I register the vehicle :).

RE: Buying from a Distance

Flying out to see our new to us purchase on the 24th. Good to hear that it's worth it. We would have bought locally but folks in CA wanted above NADA for their used rigs and in the high end used dp market there wasn't a lot to choose from.
Most folks selling what we wanted we're retired and living in warmer climates like FL, TX, NC, etc.. Imagine that ;)!

RE: Recent purchases -- anyone bought a new DP lately???

I have a deposit on one after six months of searching. I have not seen it yet as I'm still working full time :( but I have a flight booked for the 24th!
I have been called back by several private owners who weren't willing to deal a month ago but are now coming back with low NADA or below NADA prices. I guess they realized there were not a lot of serious buyers out there and diesel prices just keep going up. Many are also waking up and finding out that they can't command a price to cover what they owe on their dp either.
It's a good time to buy right now but you have to be patient and get what you really want as you will have to hang on to it for awhile.

RE: The serenity of Camping

It's everything that's already been mentioned and more. RVer's are the best people, more at ease, willing to help and they smile more. On a weekend trip I can have a very best friend in minutes and look forward to seeing them again and again on other trips. At home I only know one of my neighbors by name and maybe two others I wave hello and goodbye to.
If you do meet the occasional grumpy, irate or non-social rver (rare), guess what?! After this trip you don't ever have to see them again.
The stars are brighter, the air cleaner, my husband and I have time to talk and dream or sit and do nothing at all but enjoy the view from our rig. We tend to hold hands more and remember what attracted us to each other in the first place. Puppies are also happier as they are with us 24 hours a day when camping.

RE: 2000 36' U270 Foretravel

I've put a deposit down on a rig in Louisiana on condition it is everything as promised when we fly out to see it. I have already called foretravel with the vin # and checked nhtsa for recalls and defects. The pictures are beautiful but in the last six months we have gotten our hopes up numerous times only to be disappointed when inspecting it.

sales tax when buying out of state?

I know I have to pay CA sales tax (ouch) but do I also have to pay the sales tax in the state I'm buying the rig? Seems unfair to be taxed twice on the same sale and rig.

RE: 2000 36' U270 Foretravel

Thanks everyone for the feedback, the selling price is fair and I called Foretravel with the vin # and they only report one ding on the rear passenger side. Foretravel replaced the rear fender panel and end storage panel and said we shouldn't be able to tell any damage was done. We've been looking for six months and we were losing hope of ever finding anything.
I've never bought anything sight unseen and I hope and pray it is everything the salesman is promising. I will check the tires, batteries and oil as suggested.

2000 36' U270 Foretravel

Just put a deposit down on this rig and I fly out to see it Memorial Day weekend. Anyone have any feedback or what to look for other than the norm? This will be my first class A and dp and we plan to graduate to full time in eight years.

RE: Urgent - need responses

I don't know the mileage, I'm going back with my dad tomorrow to have him go over it. He's got a 40' Monaco DP and will know more about what to look for. This will be our first class A or diesel and as you can see we were a little overwhelmed. Glad we got out of there to think it over as we were ready to sign without doing any research first.

RE: Urgent - need responses

NADA is 128k - 154k it was manufactured in Aug of 06 and this dealer has had it on it's lot for about a year. They bought several Ventana's at year end from Newmar and this is the last one. This rig is at a show and tomorrow is the last day of the show. I don't know if I can get the show interest rate after Sunday.

Urgent - need responses

I think I found the deal I've been waiting four months for. New 06 Newmar Ventana 3631 with following options: king dome auto sat, sirius radio, chrome ext mirrors, power sun visors, tank heat pad, power awnings.
Deal when I forced myself to walk away and think about it overnight was 125k (list is 192k), 100% finan, 5.99% interest. Any opinions, on rig, deal or newmar would be appreciated.
